Jimmy Barkan is a Master Yoga Teacher certified by Ghosh’s College of India, Calcutta, India in 1981. One of the pioneers of Hot Yoga in the United States, Jimmy practiced three to four times daily under the guidance of Bikram Choudhury. In the late 1980’s Jimmy earned the title as Bikram Yoga’s Most Senior Teacher, an accomplishment very few have since obtained.
Jimmy received his Kriya Yoga initiation on March 30th 1983 by Paramahansa Yogananda’s organization, Self Realization Fellowship!
Barkan’s first yoga studio, Yoga College Of India, opened in Fort Lauderdale, Florida January 20, 1983. Jimmy has worked with of our country’s top professional athletes throughout the years including members of the NFL, NBA, NHL, The 1997 World Series Champions Florida Marlins and PGA Tour players.
Rebranded in 2002 as The Barkan Method of Hot Yoga, Jimmy’s Level I & Level II/III Barkan Method World Famous Teacher Training programs are held all over the world. In recent years Barkan has trained students in Japan, Hong Kong, Costa Rica, Peru, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Hungary, Switzerland & Australia, to name a few. Since 1987, Jimmy has certified over 2000 Bikram and Barkan Method Teachers.
Students can find studios practicing The Barkan Method in Costa Rica, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, South America, Thailand, South Africa, Ireland, The United Kingdom and throughout the United States.
