Hot Yoga’s Spine Twist Pose for a Healthy Spine!
Hi Everyone,
The Spine Twist is one of the most valuable postures in Hot Yoga, and one of the most commonly rushed. In this tutorial I walk you through it from the ground up.
We begin with a beginner modification, so you can feel the posture safely in your own body. Then we build, step by step, toward the advanced amplification. You don’t have to get to the end today. The point is to find the version that works for you now, and know where you’re headed.
I also share the reason the ancient yogis call this pose Lord of the Fishes, which is a story worth knowing every time you practice it.
At the end, I add a bonus. The Belly Twist is a floor posture that isn’t part of the traditional 26 and 2, but we’ve added it to the daily floor poses in The Barkan Method for extra range of motion. It’s a gentle, effective way to keep your spine moving.
If you’re a student, this will help your own practice. If you’re a teacher, it’s a clear way to show your students how to modify and amplify the same pose.
In Spirit, Jimmy
