How I Opened My First HOT Yoga Studio in Florida | 1983
Hi Everyone,
In 1983, I left Los Angeles. Years of studying and teaching there had led me somewhere I had not fully expected, South Florida, where I opened my own studio.
For years, I taught every single class myself. There was no team yet, just me and a handful of students who kept showing up. Eventually, some of those students became teachers themselves, and a few even went on to open their own studios. Watching that happen was one of the most rewarding parts of building something from the ground up.
Through it all, I stayed closely connected to Bikram. He came out to teach at my studio annually for about a decade, and I traveled back to LA three to four times a year to teach for him. I even represented him at Yoga Journal conferences during one of the most explosive growth periods yoga has ever experienced, the rise of yoga in the late 1990s.
In this week's video, I share what it was really like building a studio from scratch, the students who became teachers alongside me, and staying close to Bikram through it all.
LOVE & LIGHT,
JIMMY
